Putting money, effort, care, and time into cars and deriving enjoyment, happiness, and expression from them is “wasting” them?
You sure that’s “wasting” a car when 99.9% of cars die a slow death along a daily routine between Point A and Point B, never to be truly loved or cared for?
Maybe I missed your point, but I find it hard to believe that a car is “wasted” if someone truly loves it and derives happiness from it. (even if you don’t personally agree with someone else’s alignment specs)
